SALARY RANGE: $

Ad Valorem - 2.40 parish property (ad valorem) tax mills are dedicated to employee salaries. The annual receipts from this tax are distributed to employees twice a year, one-half in January and one-half in June. The amount of each employee’s supplement is the employee’s salary multiplied by the annual percentage (computed each year based on actual tax revenues).

QUALIFICATIONS: WILL PROVIDE

Individual School Planning

• Coordinates ongoing activities designed to help individual students establish personal goals and develop future plans.
• Coordinates activities that help students plan, monitor and manage their own learning, as well as set, evaluate, and attain goals in the areas of academic, career and personal/social development.
• Helps students make the transition from school to school, school to work, or school to higher education or career and technical training.
• Provides systematic delivery of individual planning for every student that includes a documented strategy for success.
• Involves students, parents, or guardians and the school in planning students’ programs that meet their needs..

System Support

• Coordinate and manage activities that maintain and enhance the total school counseling program.
• Tailors the school counseling program to the unique context and needs of the school.
• Engage in most current development in the counseling field, team with others at the school and district levels to better identify and address contextual needs, and remain actively engaged as a professional in the school community. 
• Uses his/her leadership and advocacy skills to promote whole school improvement by contributing in the following areas:
  • Professional Development – Counselor will regularly update and share professional knowledge and skills through in-service training, professional association membership, and/or post-graduate education.
  • Consultation, Collaboration and Teaming – Counselor will consult with teachers, staff members and parents or guardians regularly in order to provide information, to support the school community and to receive feedback on the emerging needs of students. Counselor will network with other stakeholders to identify student needs and design programs and activities to address them. Counselors should serve actively in and communicate with the community through presentations, memberships, and meetings to ensure that all community resources are available to students and that the community is aware of the needs of the school and able to contribute.

Responsive Services

• Provides counseling, consultation, referrals and/or peer facilitation to meet the immediate needs of students.
• Offers a range of services along with the continuum from early intervention to crisis response to meet student’s needs.
• Consults with parents or guardians, school personnel and other identified parties when developing plans and strategies for facilitating student development. These plans must include a wide variety of strategies, be specific, and aligned to a clear objective for the student.

School Counseling Curriculum

• Provides systematic instruction in the data-driven school counseling curriculum.
• Collaborates with other educators to deliver elements of the curriculum through infusion in other classroom disciplines.
• Conducts planned small group activities outside the classroom to respond to students’ identified needs or interests.
• Plans and delivers workshops and information sessions aligned with the school counseling curriculum for parents and guardians.

Professionalism Competency – The counselor contributes to achieving the school’s mission, engages in self-reflection and growth opportunities, and creates and sustains partnerships with families, colleagues and communities.

• Engages in self-reflection and growth opportunities to support high levels of learning for all students.
• Collaborates and communicates effectively with families, colleagues, and the community to promote students’ academic achievement and to accomplish the school’s mission.
